Not that I'm gonna just ditch the ship so quickly. I've kind of become attached to Gertie, so if there's a way to salvage this situation, I'm sure I'll find it. I did write myself into a bit of a corner, though...

Don't hold it against Bunny, Sprockets he(?) has shown the way! It just so happens his only method of explanation was demonstration. Gertie can copy the portal or Katrina can make a portal. Then the ship can sail through.
