This would tend to prove there are shades to "perfectly safe". Sure, the ship it totally safe, right now, sitting in the open expanse of space. And. sure, a small magic effect won't cause any issues. Perfectly safe.
Except magic, inherently, always has a chance to explode in your face when you cast it. And when you're a giant, autonomous, intelligent ship, that's a pretty damn big face.
