A bit of hand waving away the explanation. "Oh, the universe is realigning. You're the obvious replacement. Yada yada."
It's a good explanation though, no matter how plausible or implausible it may be. And, again, it's certainly convenient, since it helps me move the plot along (as well as providing a bit of good backstory for the readers).

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...
They actually do something heroic.
