Is the insect really a "him"? I mean, they're bugs, and not Terran bugs, so unless there was some grand race of superior beings going around the galaxy seeding all the planets to have similar beings (you know, like in Star Trek, and I know that because I've watched way too much Star Trek), it's doubtful two planets would have the same concept and implementation of gender. Too hard to swallow.
