I'm sure Darkmoon just isn't a fan of change. Adding a new party member is a big decision, and while he was okay with in on a temporary basis, having someone new stick around could throw him off his game.
In my head he never accepted Link and Bucky as permanent members, no matter how often they all traveled together.

technically speaking claypool won't be a permanent member either, since he's mortal and the rest of the part isn't.

I am half expecting Link and Bucky to appear as a merchant in some hive of scum and villiany. Linky has proven that he can replace parts on himself, no reason he can't replace it indefinitely, possibly with cybernetics.
