#2237: Reunited, Again

I actually don't hate Alucard as a character -- Symphony is a damn pretty game, and Alucard is fun to play. I just dislike all the hype and fan-love for him. He's a pretty boy who had one good game. And then kept. Showing. Up.

Ugh.

Personally, I think it could be considered to simply make a character who is immortal, related to the main villain, and deeply morally opposed to what his father represents simply vanish from the cannon with a darn good explanation. And while I do like the character as a whole, I’d certainly agree that like certain infamous game characters (much of the FF7 cast just to start) Alucard got way too much hyperfocus from fans, I feel like he was handled a lot more artfully than he could have been. To my memory he only has a few actual starring roles (playable Easter eggs in a couple games aside). I really liked Aria and Dawn of Sorrow for this reason, since it took a different tac and time period than most and left Alucard as a plot piece but firmly in the back seat. As recurring characters loved by fans go he could have suffered much worse fates. Ridley appearing in every Metroid game, or the... clumsy persistence of keeping Zero around. Heck, the attempt to remove him from the MMX games was a well intended move that resulted in a great series of it’s own... that got hamfistedly retconned and mucked about by suits a Capcom deciding to force him into a new MMX game before MMZ even launched. I get the annoyance, and certainly have similar pet peeves in other series, but man he could have been much worse off.

*considered irresponsible. — stupid tablet ate my first draft, then mangled the next.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
