Now, it should be noted that this whole plotline was not part of the plan for the proposed Castlevania Gaiden game. That game would have just followed the heroes in Dracula's castle, and the only plan for the town was for it to be a hub you could return to so you could save your game and switch between characters.
Possibly you might have been able to buy new items (or at least switch out earned sub-items) from the hub as well, although that wasn't ever really considered in any detail.
Of course, just being able to switch back and forth between stories (as CVRPG is want to do) meant I needed other storylines going on besides the raid on Dracula's castle.
