So Other-Alec does have a weapon. Fair enough. Let's rate him as a cleric, then. An evil cleric. That would explain why he has more energy than first implied.
Of course, it's not a big deal that Darkmoon got that wrong. His guess was pretty sound, and there was plenty of information to back up his assumption.
Now, if this was a D&D game, Other-Alec wouldn't be allowed to use a sword. Clerics, in that game, can't use edged weapons (at least, not in 2nd Edition). I know there's some reason (not humane enough or some bullshit), but it always seemed like a stupid rule.

I don't remember all of the rules regarding 2nd Edition AD&D, but I'm very familiar with 3rd Edition D&D. If I do remember correctly though both had a distinction between 'simple' weapons and 'martial' weapons, mainly that 'martial' weapons were ones that required weapons training to effectively (or at least safely) use, and 'simple' didn't. If my memory still hasn't failed me clerics don't typically get trained in weapons, thus they lack the ability to use most 'martial' weapons like swords (there are a couple of them that are closer to 'simple' weapons, but are just made of metal, that they can use in 3rd). However, if the 'chosen weapon' of the cleric's god is a type of sword, say a longsword, then yes the cleric is typically allowed to use that specific weapon proficiently. At least it is allowed in 3rd, and I seem to recall arguments being made for it in 2nd, after all, why /wouldn't/ you practice using the chosen weapon of your god.

The simplified 2nd Ed rules (right out of the book) didn't allow for edged weapons, but I could see a GM/DM allowing them under the right argument, sure. However, the benefit of always using blunt weapons was that against enemies who were impervious to edged attacks (like skeletons) you already had a leg up.

Maybe Evil Alec there is just wielding a sword-shaped club.

A cleric of a war God should be able to use any weapon his God uses.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
