#736: A Powerful Shield
Strictly speaking, it's an accurate assessment. Remember, Link's main quest is protecting the town of Jova (Veros) from any outside enemy forces. That's his reason from being here (and not in Hyrule). Everything else -- defeating Dracula, helping Sindra, gaining new equipment -- that's all a side quest he's taken up just because he can (or, in the case of getting out of Hell, had to).
As far as he's been concerned, the enemies of Hell just have cool items. Whatever you may call it, he's never consciously thought of it as a war on Hell.
