Oh, so they needed the shuttle to ensure the mortals stayed on the ship. At least that's what I'm guessing the last panel means.

Angel needs to take the shuttle so he has a way to get home when he's blackout-drunk, DUH.

The used the shuttle because greater than 50% of the time Angel doesn't remember he can teleport. Oh, and when he's sober he tends to 'enjoy' the scenic route at times so he can get a drink.
