Although early Castlevania games were ridiculously hard, later entries have been substantially easier. Attribute it to the broadening of the gaming market and the move away from more difficult games.
It just has an interesting impact in-series. For some reason, as the series goes on, Dracula just seems to put less and less effort into his castle.

Well the castle itself is a creature of chaos. When you think about it, it's probably treated as slave labor. Perhaps it's getting so fed up that in following incarnations it's being passive-aggressive?

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...
They actually do something heroic.
