Although the term for SoNAR is much more recent, sonar itself has existed in some capacity since Leonardo Da Vinci (because of course he invented it, the smug bastard). He figured out that ships could be detected by pumping sound underwater through a tube.
I can't really explain why Raye knows terms like "nerd" or "wedgie" since she hasn't really been exposed to Angel and his corrupting influence on slang in this past era. We'll just have to chalk that up to Angel's influence spreading farther than just those he talks to.

"No one this nerdy survived childhood wegie-free". That is actually 100% untrue. While some, perhaps most, nerds might get wegies; there are nerds who don't. I was one of the nerds that never got a wegie in childhood. Of course, I was well known as the kid with "issues". Anyone who tried to bully me soon regreted it. They started the fight, but I was always the one to finish it.
