#734: Goodies
Here we have the second of the three upgrade items Link gains on this quest -- the shield. In a Link to the Past, the top-level shield allows Link to block all manner of projectile attacks, including laser beams. I don't know that I have Link actually deflect much with his shield in this series, but if I needed to, I'm pretty sure the shield would be just as good as the LttP version.
The design is supposed to look like a couple of claw marks across the shield. I don't know if it plays as well as I would have liked, but I was limited by the basic sprites rules of design -- I wanted to ensure that Link's complete sprite sheet fit into the proper 16-bit sprite colors, thus leaving me with only 15 colors (plus transparent) to play with for his new outfit and all his items (shield, sword, and extraneous paraphernalia).
Link to the Past avoided this rule by having Link's items be separate from Link. I could have done that, but having multiple sprites sheets to control a single character means there's more I have to do with the layout, and also that there's a greater chance of sprite jitter from panel to panel. A combined sprite sheet may have givens me less colors to play with, but the layouts ended up more consistent -- a trade-off I was willing to make.

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...
