#6: Rift Wars

I think this is my favorite of the set. When Rift Wars ran, some fans actively questioned what the point of it all was. At the time it was hard to show because, frankly, the entire plotline is inessential in the moment but once you see it in the context of the larger story -- gods and god-like beings with giant final forms, visiting pocket dimensions, using the potential energy of those dimensions to escape -- then the arc actually works. It's actually essential in how it conveys knowledge to the heroes, but it is a pretty random arc as it goes on.

As such, I could just summarize all the important bits in some dialogue and trim the entire 200 comic arc down to six panels. I find that hilarious.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
