Gertie isn't stupid. The admiral was pretty clear about her desires and, even if she wasn't, Gertie is a vast and powerful A.I. that could read micro expressions, parse out intent, and factor all the various ways the mission could go wrong in a few nanoseconds, and still keep the ship operating in the process. She probably knows what she's doing. Probably.
