The image of a vampire crying blood came from the Anne Rice "Vampire Chronicles" series. I pretty certain it was mentioned there once, but I'm not going back to check it out. The first two books were decent, but the series severely fell off after that.
I'm sure many fans of her books are sad she found religion and ended her series. Personally, the world is better off without more fey vampire books. Bleh.
