I've played in more than one RPG where the story ended with an "it was all a dream" ending. One time we found out it was all a holodeck simulation. Another time we woke up from the dream about half-way back in the adventure (that wasn't actually the ending, but we were all so annoyed that we said fuck it and quit).
Why do people keep thinking that doing a story that ends in "it was all a dream" is a good idea. It's a tired trope.
