This Comic's Storylines:
Pacing. It's all about pacing.
One could argue that Angel shouldn't have been able to perform that spell since he's never used Dark magic before, never talked about Dark magic before, and never shown any inkling about Dark magic before. He's an angel, theoretically being a light, so Dark magic should be foreign to him (as it is to all angels). All valid points.
However, if I may raise a counterpoint: Sindra.

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...
They actually do something heroic.
