That is, more or less, the way you kill the Giant Skeleton in Link to the Past. Just, without the Holy Spire. Link didn't have that.
I'd say the Zelda games would benefit from more magic spells and RPG elements, but they tried that with Zelda II and damn if that didn't work.

I don't think Zelda would benefit from more spells and RPG elements, and not because of the mess that was Zelda II. It's more because that isn't really Link's style. Unless you're going to have Zelda adventuring alongside Link more magic doesn't really fit the games, and unless the RPG elements were very carefully implemented they'd end up ruining the whole point of doing the equipment upgrade quests.
When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...
These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...
They actually do something heroic.
