Casting secretly would mean not having to speak any words of power (usually denoted by the spell caster turning away from the battle and mumbling, a la Final Fantasy) or waving hands (such as Magus in Chrono Trigger). You simply build the power up and then unleash it (in CVRPG, you do have to speak the spell name, just because I think it's cool).
Obviously, the Sorceress can do that too, and she's really good.
