The fire sword is a favorite effect of Darkmoon. I don't think, back when I wrote this, I had settled on Darkmoon using almost exclusively fire magic (and still, from time to time he casts a couple of minor ice spells), but this sword effect was one I knew worked great for Darkmoon. It seems so... him.
