CVRPG Introduction #12: Rules of Engagement

RPGs are designed so that the player has to spend time defeating monsters in one area (presumably nearby whatever dungeon they are supposed to go in), just so that they are strong enough to move on to the next area (post-dungeon) where the mosters are incrementally harder. Each area has monsters more powerful than the previous area -- but just by a little bit.
It's a ladder-like progression of pain and violence, where the heroes slowly climb each rung, moving up the ladder of death. It's great for a hero to say "I want to defeat the boss at the top of the ladder and save the world", but it's going to take a lot of climbing to get there.
 
    

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...

These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...

They actually do something heroic.
