This is the problem with written sarcasm: sarcasm doesn't carry well without someone being able to hear the tone. The player apparently got hooked on one fact and refuses to let an idea go just because they didn't get the sarcasm.
I do think it's nice to let the narrator have a little taste of the trouble, though. He has given the player such a hard time, a little turn-about is only fair.
