Her reaction is classic. Amuses me every time I read this comic -- and I wrote it, so it's not as if I don't know what was going to happen as I read the comic.
I think I established elsewhere that most of magic is just tapping into the energies of the world, waving your hands a certain way, saying a few words, and boom. Spell.
Harder to do when you don't have hands... or vocal chords. I do think cats could probably tap into magic, but presumably their spells would be at least subtly different. Different enough Katrina would have to relearn most of her magic.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...
These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...
They actually do something heroic.
