Cornell never moves. That's the real reason I wouldn't want to try and pursue an arc with him as the hero. But also, he did go evil. And if he didn't, at the very least his clone went evil.
And, remember, Cornell knows about the reboot. He was outside of time when it happened, so he gets to remember all of it. Even if it was the clone's actions he's getting blamed for, this Cornell still went evil, for real, somewhere.
