The decision to be a better person is all Darkmoon. Having his soul did restore some feelings (although vampires can feel), and some morals (although, again, no one is saying vampires can't have their own form of morality). Darkmoon just decided to be good all on his own. Deep down, it was a natural choice for him to make.
