It doesn't sound like the best plan becoming a white lich. I doubt it would end any better than being a dark lich. But then, who knows? White magic undead is something that is possible, but hasn't really ever been explored before.

Well I vaguely remember a DnD Setting that had the "Deathless" which were a good version of Undead. Probably the same magical roots though instead.

I once ran a campaign where a good wizard was so busy researching a higher order magic that he simply didn't NOTICE when he died. That was the twist, actually. The players were recruited by a corrupt city council to eliminate the "undead monstrosity". Who was actually chaotic good. (My reasoning there was that a lawful good magic user would probably react like Nicolas Flamel in "Harry Potter"... The natural order of the cycle of nature is that all things die. A lawful good lich would therefore end himself as soon as he noticed he was supposed to be dead.)
Good I miss second edition, before Wizards of the Coast took a giant shit on RPGs in general and AD&D in specific.
