Gotta say, when I realized what I'd done, trapping Alec in the basement, this was the only solution I had. I don't know if the physics I work out for the eventual solution are solid -- I'm in no way close to being a physicist, but then if you want that kind of comic you read XKCD -- but it at least sounds good in theory.
