Somehow Darkmoon recharged his magic half-way up. He probably used some kind of tonic or elixir as her fell. That seems weird, since I would assume Darkmoon would sell any elixirs he'd find and wouldn't buy any extras, but since he managed to change back into a bat and continue flying up, that's the only explanation I got.
Besides which, the comedic timing works for it. Just part three in the "Darkmoon gets abused for no reason" arc I'm writing here.
