Speaking of letting the characters know too much ahead of time, here's Golem explaining the whole plot. Well, he did have a lot of time to work it out. I guess it's not cheating within the context.
So I killed off the rest of the cast, but not exactly. They're still alive, and by Golem's plan they'll live long full lives once the Sorceress is defeated. Still, this is apparently one of two "dark future" CVRPG has already had (the other being what happens in Darkmoon doesn't save the team in CVRPG II). Makes it sound more depressing than it is.

When evil spreads across the land, and darkness rises and the monsters roam. When the creatures of the night make beautiful music, and the things that go bump in the night go bump with greater enthusiasm. When the world is in peril and is in need of a hero...
These guys are, sadly, the best the world can hope for. These are the adventures of the heroes of CVRPG. They mean well, they try hard, and occasionally they do the impossible...
They actually do something heroic.
