When I made the various crew people I didn't expect any of them to grow a personality and require a name. But then I put all my officers on the ground while Gertie stayed up on space (as she would) and suddenly I needed someone to talk to. I grabbed a random crew person, let her talk to Gertie for a while, and suddenly we had Mimi who became her own person and needed her own bio. These things just happen sometimes.
