The thing about being in the Villains Guild is that you're actually a member of a guild that rewards evil. If you're there long enough, it's just assumed you're an evil schmuck out to do no good.

In Richter's case, sure, we're not far off, but he still considered himself a hero for a while there, even if he was never very good at it.

I blame the writers for that. Damn them and their comic that demeans Richter's good name...
