Well, this is just the way Golem rolls. He had a house back in Veros, but he was only seen once in it (and he wasn't asleep at the time). If anything the fact that it had furniture and objects in it might have just made him uncomfortable.
He's a simple golem with simple needs. An empty, open room is just the way he likes it. Give him a floor to stand on, a wall to stare at, and the whole of eternity to contemplate and he's a happy golem indeed.
