I will admit that when I first found the sprites, I took them for official NES sprites from the real companies. My mind played tricks on me, since I did remember the Game Boy having ports of most of these games... so it just made sense that the NES would too.

I mean, if hackers could do it, why not the real companies.

It took a bit of research to verify where they came from. I gotta say, though, these people put a fair bit of effort into their unofficial remakes and sequels. Props to the hackers for that.
