The above joke with Alec is of course set at the Entrance to the Desert Temple in Link to the Past. The joke is actually a reference to "The Day the Earth Stood Still," although it's also a reference to "Army of Darkness," which was itself referencing DtESS. You can take it either way really.
As for the main comic, it's my revenge against all the people that voted for that damn chicken. The hell was I supposed to do with a chicken in charge of the town, I ask you? Jerks. ;)
